sometimes people just want to be happy... even if it isn't real
Lately on Tumblr I’ve been seeing a lot of skinny girls with their underwear and sportswear. And part of these photos I see girls comment on how they “wish they were that skinny” or say “when is it my turn to be slim”. But why do you want to be skinny? You’re beautiful the way you are. The reason I’m posting this photo is for two reasons: one I briefly touched upon in this paragraph, and the other I will explain now.
I have many flaws. I know that. One is my weight. I’m above average for my age/gender’s Body Mass Index and it shows. My thighs and stomach are bigger than I’d like and my wide hips are a problem when trying on clothes. It’s not only my weight, though. My skin’s not clear, my eyebrows, ears and nose are bigger than I’d like, my nails are quite short and there’s a ton more flaws I could list, but I don’t care. You know why? Because I know these flaws exist and I accept them. Because I’ve accepted them, I don’t care what other people say about them. My flaws don’t make me a better person, so why bother changing it? Because society won’t accept me since I’m not pretty enough?
Notice how I didn’t say “my thighs and stomach are too big” or “my hips aren’t small enough”. There is no “enough”. I have no “standard”. The media has given us images of “beautiful” and “perfect” men and women, and apparently they are the standard. And I’m sure we all know what that standard is. I don’t care about that standard because everyone is beautiful, even with your flaws.
Once you accept your flaws, no one can use them against you. There is no “standard”.
